FUMARIC ACID appears in the form of a crystalline white powder that is odorless, combustible but weakly flammable, and slightly soluble in water. It has a flavor reminiscent of fruits. It is the trans isomer of maleic acid: its two carboxyl groups are in the E (trans) position, whereas those of maleic acid are in the Z (cis) position, making it more stable than the latter. Its salts and esters are called fumarates.
Applications:
- Widely used in all kinds of beverages, carbonated drinks, wine, candies, snacks, biscuits, canned fruit juices, dairy products, and can also be used as cooking oil antioxidants.
- FUMARIC acid is a good rock mix and can be used to test the acid resistance of ceramic tile in architectural pottery reagents.
- FUMARIC acid and sodium citrate buffer used for flue gas desulfurization.
- FUMARIC acid is a kind of fruit acid that can be used to accelerate the renewal of the cuticle, commonly used in lotions, creams, shampoos, whitening products, anti-aging products, and acne products.
