Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate, also known as DEHP (DiEthylHexyl Phthalate) or DOP (dioctylphthalate), is a phthalate with the empirical formula C24H38O4.

APPLICATION:

plastics industry

Dioctylphthalate can be used as a softening agent, making the product easier to bounce and more difficult to change shape under pressure, without affecting plastics.

It is widely used in the processing of polyvinyl chloride and ethyl cellulose resins to produce plastic film, imitation leather, electrical wire, cable carrier, sheet, planet, plastic mold products and used in nitrocellulose paints. It has applications in the automotive industry, building and construction materials

floor coverings, medical devices.

MEDICAL DEVICES

Dioctylphthalate is used as a plasticizer in the manufacture of medical and sanitary products, such as blood bags and dialysis equipment. It has an additional and unique role in blood

blood bags, because it actually helps to extend the life of the blood itself. DEHP stabilizes red blood cell membranes enabling blood products to be stored in PVC blood bags for several weeks.

Other uses:

It is also used as a hydraulic fluid and a dielectric fluid in capacitors.

DOP also finds application as a solvent in sticks.

"DOP" (dioctyl phthalate) and "DINP" (di-isononyl phthalate) are two types of plasticizer widely used in the polymer industry to improve the flexibility and durability of plastic materials, mainly polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Here's a comparative description of the two:

DOP (Dioctyl Phthalate):

Uses: DOP is a classic plasticizer, widely used in a variety of industrial and commercial applications, including the manufacture of plastic films, coatings, cables and PVC toys.Characteristics: Liquid at room temperature, colorless and odorless. It has been widely used in the past, but its use is restricted in some regions due to environmental and health concerns related to phthalates.

DINP (Di-isononyl Phthalate) :

  • Chemical formula: C24H38O4
  • Uses : DINP is a plasticizer commonly used as a safer alternative to DOP. It is used in a variety of applications, including plastic toys, floor coverings, cables and other PVC products.
  • Characteristics: It is also liquid at room temperature, colorless and odorless.DINP is considered a safer alternative due to its different chemical structure, which reduces some of the risks associated with phthalates.
