Biochar

Biochar is a solid material, typically in the form of black or dark gray powder, derived from the pyrolysis of organic biomass under controlled low-oxygen conditions. It is odorless, non-combustible, and exhibits low flammability. Biochar is poorly soluble in water and is especially valued for its adsorptive properties, durability, and ability to improve soils. It is also used in filtration applications and carbon capture solutions in environmental contexts.

Applications:

1. Soil Improvement:

   • Used as an amendment in agricultural soils to enhance water retention, fertility, and soil structure.
   • Helps sequester carbon in the soil, contributing to a reduction in CO2 emissions.

2. Water Treatment:

3. Carbon Sequestration:

   • Used in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, where Biochar captures carbon during its production and stores it long-term in the soil.
